Prepare properly for your diagnostic studies to ensure the exams go smoothly. For a full abdominal ultrasound, a minimum 6-hour fast and a full bladder are required; you must drink 6 glasses of water half an hour before the exam. No specific preparation is required for an upper abdominal ultrasound. Studies of the renal tract, urinary tract, and prostate require a full bladder but do not require fasting. Pelvic and suprapubic ultrasounds also require a full bladder. Soft tissue studies—such as those for the thyroid, neck, breast, testicles, testicular Doppler, and abdominal wall—do not require preparation. Transvaginal (TV) pelvic ultrasounds and gestational or obstetric studies do not require prior preparation. We also offer digital mammography and X-ray interpretation. Please check the specific preparation instructions before your exam and follow the necessary guidelines.
